Dirty White Fresh Catch Playlist

For this week's classic rock fresh catch we move to the dirty white boys. With gusto. As my grandma always used to say, "Shifty, there's not many things in this world you can always count on. Except Van Halen I."

Holiday, Holiday, I Declare A Holiday

And the circle draws to a close. Back in January I posted the tale of how an unsuccessful search for the self-titled Masters of Reality album led instead to some compellingly unique pedal steel employment.

And now, with the end of this year in sight I was quite thrilled to repeat that search, but successfully this time. The Masters of Reality have issued many an album with many a different lineup since, but this one just got to me at the right time. Lean, gritty, and lysergic but not silly. Delicious.

Got My Turkey Pants On Playlist

As we load out to head down Turkey Road for the weekend, here's a little autumnal sampler playlist for the occasion. Cheers, good peoples!

Got My Turkey Pants On Playlist

Give Thanks & Praises - Bob Marley
New England - Tanya Donnelly
Cape Cod Girls - Paul Clayton
Hands On The Wheel - Willie Nelson

P.S.: I almost forgot to point out an interesting Rhapsody note: yesterday was the first time in a year or more that some one or combination of Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, and/or Pink Floyd weren't in that 15 Top Artists list that shows up on the Rhapsody front page. For some reason seeing them up there so regularly has given me some hope for the youth. (Actually it looks like those artists aren't that far from the front even now at #25, #18, and #19 respectively right now).

Out To Lunch Friday Playlist

Today out to lunch, another celebration of the most delightful oddball tracks in the Rhapsody catalog to welcome in the weekend. First, close your eyes and be transported back to a forgotten day when dot-matrix was king: I can literally feel that green glow from the Apple IIc monitor warming my eyelids. Beautiful stuff, and mainly a strong love themed batch from there on out.

The Burlesque Uncensored album is part of the recent Rhapsody influx of fascinating vintage sounds on the Cook Records label. There's more worth hunting down where that came from.

A Simple Text File - Man or Astro Man?
Joe Strummer's Grave - Billy Childish
18 With A Bullet - Pete Wingfield

Out On Loam Fresh Catch Playlist

I've spent most of the last couple weeks working on machines with either no sound or just the Rhapsody browser player, cramping the playlist output. But here's a rich, loamy fresh catch batch of more easy listening greats.

Out To Lunch Friday Playlist

This morning I was attempting to tame Shmaltzy Junior's mane when the first song in our Out To Lunch Friday playlist started rolling from my mouth out of nowhere. From there we enjoy the moody vibes of Gary Burton in Las Vegas Tango. I knew I'd heard that song somewhere before, and sure enough it was the foundation of Illusions from the third Cypress Hill album (a song whose employ of sitar segues quite smoothly into the closing Donovan gem).

Quiche Lorraine - The B-52s
Las Vegas Tango - Gary Burton
Illusions - Cypress Hill
