Out To Lunch Friday Playlist

Here's a couple things I have absolutely no ability to comment on with any knowledge: Broadway and fine piano playing. Nevertheless.

A few previously absent Sondheim shows came into Rhapsody a couple weeks ago, and I once saw my cousin rock the role of one of the princes in Into The Woods, so why not get those songs stuck in my head for another week?

Then, there was an article in the Sunday paper about this gentleman Pierre-Laurent Aimard last week [Boston Globe - attempts pop-ups]. I pulled him up in the old Rhapsody, and this one song had me out of my seat banging my head like it was the Ace of Spades. And it's some of the tamer stuff he's into.

So Happy Friday.

Out To Lunch Friday Playlist

Today out to lunch, a fine spread of oddities captured roaming the Rhapsody wilds recently. Make Me A Pallet On Your Floor is one of those songs universally unavailable across Rhapsody. So I was happy to find this misnamed version hiding on a random album from John Hurt missing the Mississippi. Enjoy it while you can.

Lastly, at some point last year a batch of interesting Dutch jazz came into Rhapsody on the Stunt Records label. Here's a delighttfully odd funkified version of Nardis for flute and acoustic guitar.

Interface Reflections Friday Playlist

Two sides to this playlist situation today.

First, I've been enjoying this Klaxons record Sir Drake recommended not too long ago. And that one part in this song kept making that part of that Beck song keep popping up in my head. The rest of the playlist grew through a similar process.

Second, I've been listening to Rhapsody almost exclusively through the browser player for the last month while testing on a temporary Vista partition (I've been hurt bad in the past trying to put a full Rhapsody application/library in two places at once). Anyhow, I'm happy to say the browser player has come a very long way in the last few months. The best new bits are being able to add songs to the bottom of the queue without playing them immediately, ready access to My Playlists and My Library, and decent playlist creation options. I cobbled this list together using only the browser player.

I'd still like to be able to minimize that player to the system tray to clear up some taskbar space, the keyword search comes back empty nine times out of ten, and it seems like there's up to a day or two delay sometimes between when New Releases are available in Rhapsody proper and when they show up for the browser player. And, it'd be nice to be able to easily choose whether a playlist link goes right to the Rhapsody application or spawns a browser player.

But what the Hell, it's Friday, so let's dance.

Isle of Her - Klaxons

Mother Upduff Comes To Visit

So I haven't had a chance to sift enough to playlist, but felt I should alert anyone else who may care that finally a bunch of Can's been added to Rhapsody in the last couple days.

We'll be back.

Mellow Muscle Friday Playlist

Today a fresh catch batch of mellow songs with a bit of muscle. Particularly the nice greasy harmonica bit in this version of the Wings' Let Me Roll it from Raconteur Brendan Benson, and again in the Roxy Music track. But it's all an entirely appropriate way to ramp up into the Friday state of mind.

Taang! Tuesday

A shining heap of 80's Boston punk came into Rhapsody recently with the mass additions from the Taang! Records label. Here are a few highlights from Gang Green and the early Lemonheads. I'm not qualified to address bands like Sam Black Church, the F.U.'s, or Slapshot, but they're part of this bloom, too.

Second Chance - Lemonheads
L.D.S.B. - Gang Green
