Ethiopian Jazz Catchup Playlist

Here's a trio of fine songs of African extractment. Particularly, back in August I posted a short playlist marking the arrival in Rhapsody of a single Mahmoud Ahmed track on some odd compilation. Well lo and behold, not too long after there was a whopping twenty one volumes of great Ethiopian music added under the name Ehtiopiques. Included in the lot were four whole albums of Mahmoud Ahmed.

Rhapsody editor Sarah Bardeen crafted a quite comprehensive celebratory playlist welcoming the series in general, so I won't recreate that wheel here.

What I will do is feature another fine Mahmoud Ahmed song and point out that volume 4 in the Ethiopiques series is labeled in Rhapsody under artist Ethiopiques Ensemble, but features the music of Mulatu Astatke, who you may or may not recall fondly from his place in the road mix used in the Jim Jarmusch movie Broken Flowers.

We'll close in Nigeria with Fela Kuti, who also had a heap of fine albums added in Rhapsody last year.
