When I open up the Rhapsody music guide page for a jazz artist for the first time, I find it easiest to get into their versions of those standards I already know and love. The prism they bend that classic chart through will undoubtedly display the personality and style of the musician.

The real reflection of a jazz musician's artistic heart, though, lies in their own compositions. Here's a playlist of self-written tracks by jazz musicians not widely heralded for their composition.
